Being a dog parent is such a wonderful thing to be, and being with our dogs is like this huge adventure crammed into such a small creature. We’ve come across these dog quotes all over the internet, and found them so relatable we’d like to share them with you!
There are funny ones, (mostly) touching ones, some sad ones, but all of these quotes share the same thing: they’re true for any dog parent that reads them!
It was fun seeing these dog quotes and realizing how much of dog parenting is a shared experience that a lot of us can relate to, what with all the good days and yes, even the bad ones.
Let’s start off with these absolute truth bombs:

“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” —Roger Caras

“Happiness is a warm puppy.” ― Charles M. Schulz

dog quotes

“It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.” – John Grogan

“I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me, they are the role model for being alive.” – Gilda Radner

“A dog is like a person—he needs a job and a family to be what he’s meant to be.” ― Andrew Vachss

“People leave imprints on our lives, shaping who we become in much the same way that a symbol is pressed into the page of a book to tell you who it comes from. Dogs, however, leave paw prints on our lives and our souls, which are as unique as fingerprints in every way.”― Ashly Lorenzana

Here’s one that the resident introvert dog mom can’t help but agree with!

“The average dog is a nicer person than the average person.” ― Andy Rooney

The next ones are really profound, and they are such a testament to how amazing dogs are:

“If I could be half the person my dog is, I’d be twice the human I am”― Charles Yu

“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” ― Josh Billings

dog quotes

“Heaven is a place where all the dogs you’ve ever loved come to greet you.” ― Oliver Gaspirtz

“If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.” ― Will Rogers

Same, Mr. Rogers, same.

“Dogs come into our lives to teach us about love. They depart to teach us about loss. A new dog never replaces an old dog, it merely expands the heart.” ― Erica Jong

“. . . owning a dog always ended with this sadness because dogs just don’t live as long as people do.”― John Grogan

dog quotes

“Dogs’ lives are too short. Their only fault, really.” ― Agnes Sligh Turnbull

“Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.” ― John Grogan

In case you weren’t aware of it, John Grogan is the author of the book that inspired the movie Marley and Me, just in case you weren’t feeling sad enough yet…

“Once you have had a wonderful dog, a life without one, is a life diminished.” ― Dean Koontz

Be right back, wiping our tears…
Moving on to some funny quotes to dry up those tears!

“What do dogs do on their day off? Can’t lie around – that’s their job.” – George Carlin

dog quotes

“Anybody who doesn’t know what soap tastes like never washed a dog.” – Franklin P. Jones

Bath time is soap snack time, isn’t that right, fellow dog parents?

“I don’t think twice about picking up my dog’s poop, but if another dog’s poop is next to it, I think, ‘Eww, dog poop!” ― Jonah Goldberg

Why is that so true??
On picking up things…

“I feel sorry for people who don’t have dogs. I hear they have to pick up food they drop on the floor.”

We don’t know who originally said that dog quote, but it was too funny not to include!
We can personally attest to the next ones, dogs are just so comforting, even when you’re feeling really low. They don’t fail to cheer us up, don’t they?

“When an eighty-five pound mammal licks your tears away, then tries to sit on your lap, it’s hard to feel sad.” ― Kristan Higgins

“Dogs are very comforting when your world has exploded.”― Robin McKinley

“Dogs are like that, I guess—they know how to fix you without ever saying a word.”― Caroline George

“I have found that when you are deeply troubled, there are things you get from the silent devoted companionship of a dog that you can get from no other source.” ― Doris Day

This next one should  probably be our site motto, to be honest.
dog quotes
And as for dogs and writing,

“You can’t have too much dog in a book.” ― Gail Honeyman

Unless…

“The dog always dies. Go to the library and pick out a book with an award sticker and a dog on the cover. Trust me, that dog is going down.” ― Gordon Korman

Nooooooooo!
If those dog quotes weren’t enough to make you hug your pups in appreciation, here’s your daily reminder to give your dog some lovin’!

“I don’t understand people who don’t touch their pets. Their cat or dog is called a pet for a reason.” – Jarod Kintz

“Petting, scratching, and cuddling a dog could be as soothing to the mind and heart as deep meditation and almost as good for the soul as prayer.” – Dean Koontz

dog quotes
And finally, the last two dog quotes are little nuggets of wisdom we’d like to leave with all dog parents out there:

“Discipline isn’t about showing a dog who’s boss; it’s about taking responsibility for a living creature you have brought into your world.” ― Cesar Millan

“Dogs do speak, but only to those who know how to listen.” ― Orhan Pamuk
